Sofa scratch protectors: protect your sofa from your cat, at a range of prices

9 protectors to keep your sofa safe from cat claws: adhesive fabric mats, clear films, plastic furniture guards and a sisal panel. They all go onto your existing sofa, no need to replace it. Before buying a sofa scratch protector, check three things: the area to cover, the look you want (discreet or coloured) and whether you just want to protect, or also give your cat somewhere to scratch.

Adhesive fabric anti-scratch mats

These fabric products stick to the armrest, back or side of the sofa, like a sticker. They can be cut to size and come in several colours to blend into your living room:

  • the universal anti-scratch mat, adhesive and cut-to-size, in six sizes (from 30 x 60 cm to 40 x 200 cm) and six colours, from light grey to blue;
  • the 60 x 100 cm adhesive protector, in polyester, in six colours including khaki and navy blue;
  • the 30 x 100 cm version, in polyester, a narrow strip for an armrest;
  • the self-adhesive furniture protector, 40 x 100 cm, in polyester fibre, from off-white to silver grey;
  • the adhesive anti-scratch sofa protector in a 30 x 300 cm roll, to cover a long stretch in one piece.

Clear films and pieces

If you'd rather keep the colour and material of your sofa visible, clear protection goes unnoticed:

  • furniture film, a clear plastic roll, in four lengths, from 30 x 200 cm to 30 x 500 cm, or 45 x 300 cm;
  • the 200 x 40 cm film roll, easy to cut;
  • the clear anti-scratch furniture guard, sold in packs of 2, 4, 8 or 12 pieces, to protect several corners at once.

Sisal protection: protect and let them scratch

The sisal sofa protector is a sisal rope panel, in size S (40 x 30 cm) or M (50 x 40 cm), with or without nails. It covers the damaged area while offering a sisal surface in the same spot, useful if your cat always goes back to the same corner of the sofa.

Which anti-scratch protector should you choose for your sofa?

  • Fabric sofa, damaged armrest – an adhesive fabric model in the colour of your sofa.
  • Light-coloured or valuable sofa, discreet look – a clear film or the pieces in a pack.
  • Large area to cover – the 30 x 300 cm roll, or the universal mat in 40 x 200 cm.
  • Cat that always scratches the same corner – sisal, with or without nails.
  • Several pieces of furniture, several cats – the pack of 8 or 12.

Fitting your protector properly

1. Measure the scratched area: armrest, corner, back. Add a few centimetres of margin on each side. 2. Clean and dry the surface before sticking: dust and cat hair stop the adhesive from holding properly. 3. Cut the sticker or film to size, then apply it, smoothing from the centre outwards. 4. For sisal, choose the nail-free version if you don't want to put anything into the fabric.

After fitting, check the edges from time to time: re-stick or replace a corner that's peeling off.

Protecting without frustrating your cat

Scratching is normal for a cat: a protector covers the sofa, but your cat also needs another surface. Place a cat scratcher near the sofa, or a cat tree in the same room. A cat perch by the window keeps it busy too.

FAQ

Is an anti-scratch sofa cover the same thing?

No. A cover goes over the whole sofa; each product in this selection only covers the scratched areas, so your sofa still looks like itself. You can use several to protect armrests and corners.

How do I choose the size before buying?

Measure the damaged area and go one size up. Fabrics and films can be cut, so a larger format gives you more options than one that's too tight. Most product pages offer several size and colour options.

Does the adhesive version damage the fabric?

The product pages say nothing about removal. Before using one on the whole sofa, test a small piece on a hidden area.

To complete the look
