Cat scratcher

Cat scratchers: 27 products at a range of prices

A cat scratcher gives your cat a place of its own to scratch, stretch and play. The range goes from small cardboard scratchers to large wall-mounted sets, including scratching mats, playful sisal designs and wooden scratching furniture. To choose, start with the space you have and how your cat scratches: flat, standing up or up high.

Cardboard cat scratchers

Corrugated cardboard scratchers are the most affordable, and often double as a bed or toy:

• the café-design cardboard scratching house, with its scratching floor;
• the 2-in-1 with spinning ball, triangular in shape (24 x 24 x 27 cm);
• the round or oval model and the oval scratching nest, which also work as beds;
• the round scratching toy with built-in ball;
• the two-level vertical scratching house, which its product page describes as made for large cats, and the reinforced scratching house with hanging toy.

Scratching mats for the floor, wall or sofa

For a cat that scratches flat or along furniture, a scratching mat takes up little space:

• the rattan scratching mat, round and, according to its product page, hand-woven, alone or with a ball;
• the self-adhesive sofa scratching mat, cut to size, in seven sizes (from 30 x 30 cm to 40 x 300 cm) and seven colours, to stick on the armrest your cat has already chosen;
• the wall-mounted sisal scratching mat featuring famous artworks (Mona Lisa, Starry Night, Sunflowers).

Playful sisal scratchers

Sisal, a natural fibre, covers scratchers that double as decor:

• the sisal ball scratcher, as a 12, 16 or 20 cm ball or in L, V, triangle or double-ball shapes;
• the carrot scratcher and the chicken scratcher, in small or large;
• the mushroom scratcher, the palm tree scratcher with lounger, the sisal rope scratching chair and the scratching armchair in three styles.

For a vertical sisal scratcher your cat can climb, the sisal climbing rope is 3 metres long.

Wooden scratchers with several uses

Wooden scratchers combine a scratching area with a resting spot. The wooden bed and scratcher with sisal surface comes in small (39 × 32 cm) or large (50 × 32 cm). The curved wooden scratcher with sisal ball plays the toy card. The multi-use wooden scratchercan be set up vertically, as a bridge or as a ramp, in size S or L. The scratcher with climbing platform adds an extra level.

Large models: cat trees and wall sets

A few products go beyond the scratcher alone: the multi-level pine wall cat tree, the 4-in-1 mushroom cat tree with house, the multi-level cat tree with house and raised bowls, the solid wood wall set with house, shelves and bridge (in 5, 7 or 9 pieces), and the cat tree with hammock and tunnel. How to choose a cat scratcher?

• Cat that scratches flat : a cardboard scratcher or a rattan scratching mat.
• Cat that scratches the sofa : the self-adhesive scratching mat, placed where it aims, or our sofa scratch protectors.
• Cat that stretches standing up : a vertical scratcher, such as the multi-use wooden scratcher or the climbing rope.
• Cat that loves to climb : the scratcher with climbing platform or, for more height, the cat tree.
• Small space : the wall-mounted scratching mat or the 2-in-1 cardboard scratcher.
• Large cat : the two-level vertical scratching house, or the large sisal models.

Where to put the scratcher?

Put the scratcher where your cat already likes to scratch, or near its sleeping spot: many cats scratch when they wake up. A scratcher in the living area gets more use than one tucked away. In a large home, two scratchers in two places beat one. Cardboard wears out over time: a new cardboard scratcher then takes over.

FAQ

What is the best cat scratcher?

The one your cat uses: a stable cat scratcher, the right size, in the direction it likes to scratch (flat or upright), and placed on its usual route. The product pages describe sisal as hard-wearing; cardboard is more affordable and easy to replace.

Do you need several scratchers at home?

It often helps: one scratcher near the bed, another near the sofa or the front door. With several cats, plan at least one scratcher per cat.

How do you get a cat used to its scratcher?

Put the scratcher in front of the furniture it scratches, play with a feather or ball on the surface, and praise your cat when it uses it.
