Cat flaps at a range of prices
A cat flap lets your cat come and go freely, without you having to open the door. Our range brings together nine models: flap-style cat flaps with 4-way locking, for doors or walls, and screen doors for patio doors or French windows. Most suit cats and small dogs alike.
Flap-style cat flaps with 4-way locking
This is the classic cat flap: a flap that swings as your cat goes through, and a selector that controls access. The four positions are usually: in and out, in only, out only, and locked.
- The cat flap with 4-way locking for walls or doors, in ABS, comes in four sizes, from S (20x19x2 cm) to XL (28x25x6 cm), in black or white. Its product page says it's quiet and weather-resistant.
- The Ultra-Clear Round Cat Flap, in clear UV-resistant polycarbonate, has draught-proof brush seals. Its product page recommends it for glass doors and windows.
- The round flap cat flap, in black or white PVC, has 4-way magnetic locking and can be fitted inside or outside.
- The decorative cat-ear door, in ABS, in L or XL, for a cat flap that stands out.
Large magnetic flap cat flap
For a large cat or a small dog, two models with a magnetic flap: the flap closes by itself behind your pet.
Cat screen doors
On a patio door or French window left open in summer, a screen door lets your cat through while keeping the fly screen closed. The Lockable Magnetic Cat Flap for Cats and Small Dogs, in ABS, locks automatically. The self-closing screen door, in polycarbonate, offers 4 access modes, in S or L. The ABS-framed screen door, in white or black, closes by itself and, according to its product page, lets fresh air in while keeping insects out.
Magnetic, microchip or manual cat flap: the differences
- Manual cat flap: the flap opens for any animal that pushes it, and the locking selector sets which way it can go. These are the models in our range.
- Magnetic cat flap (collar-key type): it only opens for a cat wearing a magnet on its collar. The cat flaps in our range described as magnetic are so because of their flap or locking, and none needs a collar.
- Microchip cat flap: it reads the ID microchip fitted by your vet and only opens for registered cats, which keeps stray cats out. It runs on batteries. Our range doesn't include one.
With a manual cat flap, the lock lets you keep your cat in at night or only allow it to come in.
Which cat flap should you choose?
- Wooden door or wall: a flap-style cat flap with 4-way locking.
- Glass door or window: the ultra-clear round door, designed for glass.
- Large cat, or a cat and a small dog: the magnetic flap door, or the secure-frame door in L or XL.
- Patio door left open in summer: a screen door.
- Several cats, some of which mustn't go out: a microchip cat flap, which our range doesn't offer.
For size, measure your cat's width at the shoulders and the height from its belly to the floor, then compare with the dimensions on each product page.
Fitting a cat flap
Pick a spot sheltered from the wind, at the height of your cat's belly. Mark the cut-out on the door or wall using the template, drill in the corners, then cut out with a jigsaw. On a thick wall, you'll need an extension tunnel to line the opening: check the thickness before drilling. Screw the frame in place on both sides. Then get your cat used to it by holding the flap open for the first few days, with a treat on the other side.
FAQ
What's the best cat flap?
The one that suits your door and your cat. A flap-style cat flap with 4-way locking suits most homes; a microchip cat flap is mainly useful when stray cats come into your home.
Does a cat flap let the cold in?
A cat flap is still an opening in the door, so a little air gets in around the flap. Lock it when your cat isn't going out, and go for a model with seals, such as the ultra-clear round door with its draught-proof brush seals.
Who can fit a cat flap for me?
On a wooden door, you can fit it yourself with a drill and a jigsaw. For a wall, a uPVC door or glass, call in a tradesperson: glass has to be cut by a glazier.
How do you let your cat out without a cat flap?
By opening the door for it at set times, or by taking it out on a cat harness if it lives in a flat.
