Dog coats: 17 styles at a range of prices

The range is mostly waterproof coats for going out in the rain, a few warm coats for the cold, and knitted cardigans for small dogs. Sizes run from XS to 6XL: there's a dog coat for every build, from the little flat dog to the big dog.

Waterproof coats for the rain

A waterproof coat covers the back and often the head too, with a hood:

  • the short-sleeved summer raincoat in lightweight polyester, for small dogs;
  • the adjustable polyester model, with reflective strips, from XS to 4XL;
  • the hooded cartoon model (bear, bee or dinosaur), from XS to XXL;
  • the high-neck model with adjustable straps, in green or black;
  • the model with a lead opening, handy with a harness;
  • the lightweight nylon version with a hood, and the PU hooded cape;
  • the reversible PU coat, with Velcro fastening, from XS to 5XL, the priciest in the range.

For a large dog, the cape with a reflective strip goes up to 5XL (32 to 50 kg), the reflective poncho, to 6XL, and the clear hooded raincoat, for its part, comes in 5XL and 6XL.

Full-body suits

A suit also covers the legs, useful in the rain when your dog gets muddy. The full waterproof dog suit, with a peaked hood, is sized by weight, from XS (1 to 2 kg) to XXL (8 to 10 kg), in nine prints. The reflective waterproof suit, from S to 2XL, is aimed at small and medium dogs.

Warm coats and cardigans for the cold

For winter, the lined “Still live with my parents” jacket is described by its product page as a warm winter coat for small pets. The padded neon-green dinosaur coat keeps your dog warm, according to its product page. The two knitted cardigans, pink with hearts or with flower buttons, from XS to M, dress a small dog or a cat on chilly days.

Which dog coat should you choose?

  • Frequent rain – a hooded waterproof coat, or a suit if you want to keep the legs clean.
  • Evening walks – a model with reflective strips, such as the poncho or the cape coat.
  • Cold – the lined jacket or the padded dinosaur coat.
  • Small dog – the short-sleeved summer coat, the suit sized by weight or the knitted cardigan.
  • Large dog – the cape coat, poncho or clear raincoat in the largest sizes.
  • Dog in a harness – the coat with a lead opening.

FAQ

When should a dog wear a coat?

In the rain, so they come home less wet, and in cold weather, especially for a small dog or a short-haired dog, which feels the cold more. A dog with a thick coat rarely needs one.

How do you work out the size of a dog coat?

Measure the back length, from the base of the neck to the root of the tail, then the chest girth behind the front legs, and the neck. Compare these measurements with the guide on each product page: some sizes go by weight (the suit, the cape coat), others by letter. Between two sizes, go for the larger. To measure a puppy, our article on puppy bed sizes also gives some pointers.

To complete the outfit

The coat pairs well with dog jumpers, an dog bandana, a dog cap or dog boots, and for parties, costumes. Near water, bring a dog life jacket. It's all in our range of dog clothing.

For walks, add dog lead and dog harness; in summer, a dog cooling mat takes over. For your cat, see our cat coat, the guide to choosing a coat for your cat and our section cat clothes. You'll find more options in dog clothes, and everything else in our dog products.
