Cat hats at a range of prices

A cat hat is mainly for two things: a party or a great photo, and a summer outing in the sun. This selection brings together caps, beanies, wide-brimmed hats and fancy-dress sets. To choose a hat for your cat, look at the fastening (strap or tie) and the size of their head: a small cat doesn't wear the same model as a big one.

Caps and summer hats

These lightweight models are for a cat that goes out on a lead or enjoys the garden:

• the embroidered cap M, in polyester, adjustable, in pink, blue or green, from S to L;
• the floral cap with strap, in woven polyester, soft and light, for spring and summer;
• the wide hat with tie, in spandex and polyester, a hat whose wide shape is designed to protect from the sun according to its product page, in yellow, lavender or pink;
• the braided hat sold with its beaded collar, in pink or white, for a small cat.

A summer hat is no substitute for shade: in hot weather, keep your cat indoors, without a hat.

Beanies for head and ears

A cat beanie covers the head and lets the ears through:

• the white bunny beanie, soft and stretchy, one size, for a small cat;
• the elf beanie, knitted, in pink, blue or yellow, warm all year round according to its product page: a good choice for winter or Christmas.

For parties and fancy dress

Which cat hat should you choose?

• Outings in the sun: the wide hat or a lightweight polyester cap.
• Warm head in winter: the elf beanie.
• Funny photo: the bunny beanie, the sombrero or the helmet.
• Birthday or party: the graduation costume or the western set.
• Small cat or kitten: the stretchy bunny beanie, or the beaded hat.

Cats aren't used to having a hat on their head. Put it on for a few seconds, reward your pet, take it off, and gradually lengthen the time. A strap or tie should hold without squeezing: you should be able to slip a finger underneath. Never leave your cat alone with a hat or beanie, and take it off straight away if they try to remove it. A cat that refuses it several times doesn't need a hat: a bandana or collar will look just as good in the photo.

Does a cat need to be covered up?

Most cats do perfectly well without. A summer hat or winter beanie is an accessory for outings or photos, worn briefly, under your eye, without ever forcing your pet.
