Cat harnesses at a range of prices

A cat harness lets you take your cat out on a lead, in the garden or on a walk, without pulling on its neck. Almost every cat harness in the range comes with a matching lead: breathable mesh vests, versions visible at dusk, patterns and complete sets. To choose, start with your cat's size, then how you'll use it.

Breathable mesh vest harness

A vest harness wraps around the cat's chest and back: it spreads the pressure, and a cat finds it harder to wriggle out. It's the most common type for a first cat harness:

  • the reflective breathable harness with lead, from XXS to M, in five colours;
  • the escape-proof harness with lead, in breathable mesh, in S (chest 28-32 cm) or M (32-36 cm), in nine colours;
  • the two-tone breathable mesh harness, with details that reflect the light;
  • the adjustable breathable mesh harness, designed for cats and small dogs alike, also visible at night;
  • the breathable polyester version, which its product page recommends for outdoor walks and training.

Patterned harnesses, with their lead

For a cat that goes out in town or for photos, several cat harnesses play on style, always with a matching lead:

  • the patterned polyamide harness and lead, light and adjustable, in S or M;
  • the black paw-print harness, in adjustable polyester;
  • the bee pattern harness, adjustable, breathable and light, in S (1.5-4 kg) or M (4.5-7.5 kg);
  • the harness with a decorative flower, in S or M, or with a teddy bear, rabbit or padded design, which its product page says is designed to prevent escapes;
  • the harness topped with a plush toy, and the duck or elephant version in breathable Oxford fabric, from XS to XL;
  • the strawberry, carrot or dinosaur print harness, with a reflective logo;
  • the watermelon, lemon or orange harness, with a removable backpack and bag dispenser.

Small cats and complete sets

For a petite cat, the comfort adjustable harness, in polyester fibre, is recommended on its product page for cats under 3.5 kg. For a coordinated set, the corduroy set brings together harness, lead, bandana and pouch.

How do you choose a cat harness?

  • First harness: a breathable mesh vest harness, which wraps around more.
  • Cat that goes out in the evening: a cat harness with strips that reflect the light.
  • Kitten harness: the smallest size, XXS or XS, or a harness recommended for light cats.
  • For style: bee, flower, plush, velvet, depending on your cat.
  • Two pets, cat and small dog: the harnesses designed for both, in mesh or with a duck pattern.

For the size, measure your cat's chest just behind the front legs, and compare with the size guide on each product page, which gives either a measurement or a weight. Once the harness is on, two fingers should fit under the straps: snug enough that it can't wriggle out, without getting in the way of walking.

Getting your cat used to a harness

A cat doesn't walk on a lead like a dog: you need to get your cat used to the harness at its own pace. First leave the harness near its bed, then have it wear it for a few minutes at home, with a treat. Add the lead next, still indoors, before the first outing somewhere quiet. Never leave it tied up alone, or unsupervised in its harness.

FAQ

What's the best type of cat harness?

For most cats, the vest-style cat harness: it covers a larger area, spreads the pressure and is harder to wriggle out of than a harness with thin straps. The best one is still the one that fits your cat properly, for safe outings.

At what age can a cat wear a harness?

There's no fixed minimum age: a kitten often gets used to a cat harness more easily than an adult cat, as long as you find a size that fits. Start at home, with short sessions, and check the size as it grows.
