Dog bike basket: take him along without him running behind

A dog running behind a bike gets hurt more often than you'd think: paw pads worn down on tarmac, a pace that isn't his own, and no way to stop when he's tired. A basket flips the problem — he rides, you pedal.

Cube-shaped with front zip and side pockets, one size (for pets up to approx. 6–8 kg) — check the maximum load first: it's the limit that snaps a mount mid-ride. A front basket lets you keep an eye on your dog but makes steering heavier; a rear basket is more stable but he's out of sight. Cycling with a dog in a basket: precautions

Take the first rides slowly, on flat ground and away from traffic. Your balance changes as soon as weight is fixed to the handlebars, and it's best to discover that with no cars around. Always clip on the inner tether.

Don't ride in strong heat: a dog sitting still in a basket can't cool down by panting the way he would when running. And for trips where you'll need to carry him by hand, a dog carrier bag will be more practical.

A safety point rarely mentioned: your dog must be tethered but never able to jump out AND end up dangling. Adjust the tether short enough that he can't get over the rim. A tether that's too long is more dangerous than no tether at all.
