Dog bike basket: 11 models at a range of prices

A dog bike basket lets you take a small dog out on your bike, at the front on the handlebars or at the back on the rack. The range brings together eleven bike baskets and bags, from foldable baskets to wicker ones, several of which double as a carrier bag once off the bike.

Front baskets, fixed to the handlebars

A front dog bike basket keeps your dog where you can see them. It’s best suited to a small pet:

Rear baskets and bags, on the rack

At the back, the dog bike basket sits on the rack and leaves the handlebars free:

  • the foldable rear bike bag, ventilated, compatible with most racks according to its product page;
  • the rear bike basket with hood, roomy, with an extendable zip-up hood;
  • the multi-purpose rear bike basket, rectangular (43 x 24 x 27 cm) or oval (46 x 27 x 22 cm), with zip-up hood, which also works as a bag or dog car seat.

2-in-1 baskets: bike, backpack, carrier bag

Three bike baskets transform once you arrive: the foldable, extendable basket (carrier bag, backpack or dog car seat), the waterproof 4-in-1 basket (33.5 x 25 x 33 cm), with air vents and reflectors, and the foldable bike basket and backpack (38 x 35 x 29 cm). Handy when the outing carries on on foot.

Which dog bike basket should you choose?

  • Small dog, town rides: a front handlebar basket that folds away for storage.
  • Heavier dog: a rear basket or rear bike bag, on the rack rather than the handlebars.
  • Longer rides: a basket with a zip-up hood, or the waterproof basket with reflectors.
  • Bike, then walk: a basket that becomes a backpack or carrier bag.
  • Style: the wicker basket with grille.

Size and weight: what to check

Measure your dog sitting and lying down, then compare with the basket’s dimensions when the product page gives them: they should be able to sit without being folded up. Product pages don’t state a maximum load. For a dog of 12 kg or more, check the load your rack and handlebars can take before choosing a dog bike carrier.

Getting your dog used to the basket

First, put the basket on the floor at home with a blanket they know. Settle your dog in it with the bike standing still, then ride a few metres at walking pace on a quiet street. Gradually make the trips longer.
