Description
Dog cushion in cotton with an ice-silk cooling fabric. Easy to move around, it complements your dog's main bed rather than replacing it. It's the filling — quilted rather than loose — that decides how well it survives the wash.

Dog cushion: the extra bed you can move around

A dog doesn't always sleep in the same place: he follows the room you're in, the warmth, the light. A cushion is exactly what moves easily, which is why it complements a main bed rather than replacing it.

It also works as a car bed, a boot cushion or a spare spot for a second dog. What decides how long it lasts is the filling, and that's how we sort our dog cushions.

Filling, cover and base: what survives the wash

This one is made of cotton with an ice-silk cooling fabric. Square cushion with a pillow-style bolster, 2 sizes available — measure your dog lying on their side. Quilted or baffled filling stays in place in the wash; loose stuffing bunches up in the corners from the second machine wash. Check the non-slip base on smooth floors. For a main bed, look at a model such as cosy U-Shaped Cushion for Cats and Small Dogs with more thickness is a better bet.

  • Measure your dog lying on their side — cushion size: 2 sizes available
  • Choose a stitched filling – loose stuffing turns into lumps by the second wash
  • Check for a removable cover: machine washable, quick drying
  • Go for a non-slip base if your floor is tiled or wooden
  • Spread several dog cushions around the home rather than one very big one
  • Keep one in the boot – it gives him a familiar spot in the car

How many beds, and where to put them

Two or three beds spread around beat a single one, however perfect: your dog follows you from room to room, and a bed right where you are stops him climbing on the sofa. It's often the simplest fix for that battle.

A thin cushion isn't enough as the main bed for a large or older dog: on tiles it protects neither from the cold nor from the hard floor. For the night, a mattress with dense foam really makes a difference.

A washing tip that makes it last much longer: wash the cover on its own at thirty degrees, and dry the filling flat. A tumble dryer, even on low heat, breaks down the stuffing fibres – a cushion loses half its volume in three cycles.

FAQ

How long does it stay cool?

Three to four hours of continuous use, then it recharges by itself in about twenty minutes once your pet has moved off. There's nothing to plug in or recharge.

Which size should I choose?

This model comes in S (60x40cm) and L (80x60cm). Measure the space you have in mind and, for a bed, your pet's length lying stretched out plus about ten centimetres. Too snug and it won't get used; too big and it loses its reassuring feel.

Is my dog likely to chew it?

The cover stands up to normal claws, but a dog that chews everything out of habit will end up puncturing any mat. If so, put it under a thin blanket for the first few days while it gets used to it.

What is it made of?

Cotton with an ice-silk style cooling fabric. The material dictates the care, so check the specifications for the right way to wash it.
