Placing it, and getting them to use it

A dog takes to a bed placed where they already slept, not where the furniture looks nice. Watch for a few days: they almost always have one or two favourite spots, where they can see the room and the door. That's where it should go.

Add a blanket on top from day one: it catches hair and dust, and washes without removing the cover. For a dog that prefers to sleep flat and cool, a firm dog mattress will suit better.

One thing people always forget: the entry height. For an older or arthritic dog, a twenty-centimetre edge to step over is enough for the bed never to be used. A comfy seat never makes up for an entry that's too high.

Is it sturdy enough for an active dog?

Check the stated material: nylon and dense rubber can take it, thin fabric and plush can't. With a dog that chews, nothing replaces keeping an eye on things for the first few days.

Which size should I choose?

This model comes in M (55x38x18cm), L (66x46x30cm), XL (75x51x28cm), XXL (90x56x30cm) and XXXL (120x75x35cm). Measure the space you have in mind and, for a bed, your pet's length lying down plus about ten centimetres. Too snug and it won't get used; too big and it loses its reassuring feel.

How do I care for it?

Warm soapy water and thorough drying before reuse. Avoid very hot water, which warps plastics and slackens straps.

Does the colour make any difference?

No: Brown, Beige, Pink, Orange, Light grey and Dark grey share the same dimensions and the same finish. The choice is purely aesthetic.
