Using it well, and the alternative to know about

The rule of use is simple: a short signal, at the exact moment of the behaviour, followed by a reward when the dog responds. A signal given late or repeated no longer means anything to them.

Before going that far, a 5 m long line lets you work on recall with the same result and no electronic equipment: your dog keeps some freedom, you keep control. Many owners stop there, and that's absolutely fine.

Two precautions whatever the model: don't exceed a few hours of wear in a row, as the contact points can irritate the skin of the neck under the coat, and avoid it on a puppy, a fearful dog or an already reactive dog, where it does the opposite of what you want.

Is it suitable for a cat?

Only with a safety buckle that releases under pressure. A cat that gets caught on a branch must be able to free itself: outdoors, that's non-negotiable.

Which size should I choose?

This model comes in S, M, L and XL. Go by your pet's measurements — chest girth and back length — rather than weight: two animals of the same weight don't have the same build. If you're between two sizes, go for the larger one.

How do I care for it?

Warm soapy water and thorough drying. A collar that stays damp under the fur causes irritation at the base of the neck, often spotted too late.
