Washing, storing and making a dog blanket last

A blanket gets washed often — that's the whole point: it takes the hit instead of the sofa. Shake it outside before it goes in the machine; the hair comes off better and won't clog the filter. Skip the fabric softener, which leaves a scent many dogs avoid.

It isn't a bed: laid straight on tiles, it doesn't insulate from cold or hard floors, and an older or arthritic dog will feel it. For them, a dog mattress with real thickness makes a genuine difference to their nights.

One detail that makes all the difference: always put it in the same place. A blanket that moves every day never gets adopted, whereas in the same spot on the sofa or in the bed it becomes, within a week, the place your dog heads to on their own.

Both: laid on the sofa, it protects the fabric from hair and claws while giving your pet a spot of its own — often the best way to get it off the cushions.

Which size should I choose?

This model comes in S (58x38cm）, M (76x50cm） and L (104x76cm). Measure the space you have in mind and, for a bed, your pet's length lying down plus about ten centimetres. Too snug and it won't get used; too big and it loses its reassuring feel.

Does it shed fluff in the wash?

Flannel and fleece pill a little on the first wash, then settle down. A 30 °C wash in a laundry bag, without fabric softener, greatly reduces it.
