Grooming brush and comb for cats and dogs

Brushing does three things at once: it removes dead hair before it ends up on the sofa or swallowed during grooming, it teases out knots before they mat, and it helps you spot early what's hidden under the coat – scabs, ticks, redness, flea dirt.

No tool does it all: a short coat, a long coat and a dense undercoat don't need the same pins or the same technique. That's what sets apart our grooming brushes and combs.

Pins, blades or silicone: which one for which coat

A self-cleaning brush saves real time on large areas. For a dog, take a look instead at our Professional Grooming Comb for Eyes and Sensitive Areas.

  • Brush in the direction of the coat, in small sections, never with big quick strokes
  • Tease out tight knots by hand before using the tool – pulling hurts and puts the animal off
  • Use the time to check the skin: scabs, ticks and black specks show up here
  • Clean the tool as you go: easy-fill tank, simple to clean with water; washable bristles
  • Brush twice as often during moulting, in spring and autumn
  • Stop before he gets annoyed – a tool linked to a struggle never comes out again

How often to brush, and what you'll spot while doing it

A long coat needs brushing every day, a short coat once or twice a week, and twice as often during moulting. Short, regular sessions are far better than one long monthly session, which always ends badly.

An animal that suddenly stops grooming and becomes matted within a few weeks is almost always in pain somewhere: teeth, arthritis or excess weight that stops it reaching its back. That's a reason to see the vet. For a dog, our dog brushes are better suited to his size.

One sign to look out for while brushing: tiny black specks at the base of the coat that turn red on damp cotton wool. That's flea dirt, and it means an infestation even if you haven't seen a single flea. Brushing remains the best time to notice it.

FAQ

Does it pull on the skin?

Not if you work in small sections, in the direction of the fur, holding the base of the tuft. The pain almost always comes from pulling from the tip.

Does the colour make any difference?

No: White, Grey and Purple share the same dimensions and the same finish. The choice is purely aesthetic.

Is it suitable for a pet that doesn't like it?

Start with very short sessions, on the back and sides — never the paws or tail at first — and stop before your pet starts to struggle. The habit builds over a few weeks.

How do I clean the tool?

Remove the hair after every session and rinse the brush under warm water once a month. A clogged tool pulls more.
