Dog pram for older dogs, dogs after surgery or dogs who can't walk

A dog pram isn't a whim: it's what lets a dog with arthritis, a heart condition or in recovery keep getting out. Many owners come to it after an operation, when the vet rules out walking but the dog gets down being shut indoors.

It's also handy for small dogs in town, on public transport and in crowded places. The choice comes down to three figures — weight capacity, wheel size, folded size — and that's what sets apart our dog prams.

Weight capacity, wheels and folding: the three figures that count

This one is made from Oxford fabric + plastic. Semi-rigid cabin with breathable dome, 60 cm x 43 cm x 92.4 cm (open) — compare these measurements with your dog lying down, not standing: he needs to be able to stretch out, not just sit. Check your car boot too: a pram that doesn't fold small enough stays in the garage. For a very small dog and short trips, a foldable pram for cats & small dogs is often enough and costs less.

Measure your dog LYING DOWN before ordering: this model measures 60 cm x 43 cm x 92.4 cm (open)
Check the weight capacity — it's the limit that breaks the wheels first
Go for large wheels if you walk on tracks — small ones get stuck on the first bit of gravel
Test the fold before you buy — a dog pram that won't fit in the boot never goes out
Caring for the fabric: wipe clean with a damp cloth to protect the fabric. Avoid abrasive detergents
Clip him in — most models have a built-in safety tether

Getting a dog used to a pram without putting him off

A dog won't get into a pram just because you put him in it. Leave it open at home for two or three days, put his blanket inside and give him his treats in it while it's standing still. The first outings should be short and calm.

Always attach the inner tether: a dog that jumps out of a moving pram gets hurt. And if your outings are mostly short trips in town or on public transport, a pet carrier bag will be easier to handle than a pram.

Something people find out too late: the weight of the pram itself matters as much as the weight it can carry. If you have to lift it into a boot on your own after a walk, a two-kilo difference decides how much you'll really use it, far more than the number of features.

FAQ

Does it fold for the boot?

The models we offer fold flat. Check the folded dimensions against your boot before ordering — it's the measurement people forget to look at.

What are the exact dimensions?

60 cm x 43 cm x 92.4 cm (open). Check this measurement against your pet's size: with this kind of accessory, any mismatch shows the moment you use it.

Will my pet be happy to get in?

Leave it open at home for a few days, with a familiar blanket inside, before the first outing. Discovered on the day you set off, it's almost always refused.

What is it made of?

Oxford fabric + plastic. The material dictates the care, so check the specifications for the right way to wash it.
