Description
Cat clippers in ABS plastic with a steel blade. On a matted coat, the knots pull on the skin with every movement. Noise level matters more than power: a cat that panics the first time they're switched on won't let you near it again.

Cat clippers: clear matted fur without hurting the skin

Past a certain point, a matted long coat can no longer be combed out: the knots pull on the skin with every movement, and the skin underneath becomes irritated and sore. At that stage, clipping isn't cosmetic — it's medical.

The problem is almost never the blade — it's the noise and vibration: a cat that panics the first time they're switched on won't let you near it again. So noise level is the first criterion for our cat clippers.

Noise, blade and battery life: what decides how you'll use it

This one is made of ABS plastic with a steel blade. Black or blue clipper with side buttons and curved handle, 17 × 4.5 cm – with 3, 6, 9 and 12 mm guide combs — check battery life and noise level before power: clipping a cat is done in several short sessions, never in one go. A ceramic blade runs cooler than a steel one, which matters on thin skin. Complete the kit with our compact electric pet grooming clippers for everyday grooming.

  • Run them at a distance for several days beforehand to get your cat used to the noise
  • Work in short sessions, never a full clip in one go
  • Pull the skin taut in front of the blade — cat skin is very thin and pinches easily
  • Never clip right down to the skin: the coat protects against sun and heatstroke
  • Check the blade temperature with the back of your hand every two minutes
  • Oil and clean after every use: brush supplied, dry cleaning recommended, washable guide combs

Clipping a cat: what you can do yourself, and what you shouldn't

You can clip the belly, hindquarters and easy-to-reach knots yourself. Don't clip the whiskers, around the eyes, or right down to the skin — the coat protects against the sun, and a cat clipped too short can get sunburnt behind a window.

Thick matting stuck to the skin is a job for a groomer or vet, sometimes under sedation: trying to slide a blade underneath cuts the skin, which lifts up with the knot. To avoid getting to that point, our brushes, used regularly, is all it takes.

One sign that calls for a vet visit rather than a pair of clippers: a cat that suddenly stops grooming and becomes matted within a few weeks. Very often it's pain — arthritis, teeth, obesity — that stops them reaching their back. Clipping relieves the symptom, not the cause.

FAQ

How do I clean the tool?

Remove the hair after every session and rinse the brush under warm water once a month. A clogged tool pulls more.

What are the exact dimensions?

17 × 4.5 cm – with 3, 6, 9 and 12 mm guide combs. Compare this measurement with your pet's build: with this kind of accessory, a poor fit shows straight away in use.

How often should I brush my pet?

Two to three times a week for a short coat, every day during moulting or for a long coat. Regular brushing prevents knots, which can't be untangled without cutting.

What is it made of?

ABS plastic and steel blade. This material determines how to care for it: see the specifications for the right way to wash it.
