Snuffle mat for dogs in polyester. It turns mealtime into a treasure hunt: your dog sniffs and tugs at the strips instead of gulping, which slows down eating and tires him out mentally.

Snuffle mat for dogs who eat too fast or get bored

A dog who wolfs down his bowl in thirty seconds gets no pleasure from it and fills his stomach with air. A snuffle mat changes everything: he has to search, sniff and tug at the strips. Mealtime goes from thirty seconds to a quarter of an hour, and your dog comes out of it calm.

It's also the best tool against boredom for a dog left home alone: ten minutes of sniffing tires him out more than half an hour's walk. Choose by how dense the strips are — that's how we pick our snuffle mats for dogs.

Tapis de Fouille Potager Sonore — 80 cm x 48 cm

Strip density and washing: what makes a good mat

This one is made of polyester. Rectangular, 80 cm x 48 cm — match the size to your dog: too small, and a big dog empties it in three nudges of the nose. Check how it grips the floor too: a mat that slides flips over and your dog ends up eating off the floor. If yours is more of a licker than a forager, the dog puzzle toy – 4-Tier Rotating Treat Dispenser will hold his attention for longer.

  • Hide his evening meal in the strips instead of pouring it into the bowl
  • Allow ten to fifteen minutes of sniffing — as mentally tiring as a good walk
  • Wash it regularly: hand or machine washable. Rolls up with a strap. Suction cups included
  • Pick the size to suit your dog's build — this one measures 80 cm x 48 cm
  • Stay close the first few times — some dogs tug at the strips instead of sniffing
  • Alternate kibble and flat treats — a greasy dog snuffle mat is hard to wash
Détail de la matière : polyester

How long to use it, and with which kibble

Use it at mealtime rather than on top of meals: the aim is to slow down eating, not to add calories. Dry kibble works better than greasy treats, which soak into the fabric and make it hard to wash.

Keep an eye on the first sessions: a dog in a hurry may tug at the strips instead of sniffing, and you'll need to steer him. And if the main goal is to keep him busy for ages, a dog lick mat filled and popped in the freezer lasts longer than a snuffle mat.

A word on frequency: not every meal needs to go on the mat. Once a day is enough, otherwise the search becomes routine and loses its appeal. The rest of the time, a regular bowl does the job just fine.

FAQ

Should I leave it out all the time?

No — and that's what makes it interesting. A toy that's always there becomes part of the furniture; brought out and put away, it keeps its appeal for months.

How do I clean it?

Warm soapy water and thorough drying for rubber and plastic; machine wash at 30 °C in a laundry bag for plush, as long as the seams are intact.

Will it stand up to a dog that chews?

No toy is indestructible. Dense rubber models last much longer than plush, but a determined chewer will get the better of them eventually: keep an eye on its condition and replace it before pieces come off.

Is it suitable for a puppy?

Check the size first: a toy that fits whole in the mouth is a swallowing risk. For a teething puppy, go for softer materials.
