Dog brush in thick, soft silicone. Brushing catches the hair in the tool before it ends up on the sofa, and helps you spot mats at the root, ticks and redness early.

Dog brush for dogs that shed everywhere

A dog sheds all year round, and heavily twice a year. The point isn't to stop it, it's to catch that hair in a brush rather than on the sofa. Ten minutes of brushing removes what would otherwise be all over the house for three weeks.

Brushing also helps you spot early what you can't see: knots at the roots, ticks, red patches, clumps of undercoat pulling on the skin. The right tool depends entirely on the coat, and that's what sets apart our dog brushes.

Gants de Bain Massants en Silicone pour Chiens — brosse pour chien

Slicker, curry or detangling brush: which one for which coat

This one is made of thick, soft silicone: ambidextrous gloves with pins on the palm and fingers. 28 x 12 cm — on a short, coarse coat a fine slicker brush is enough; on a long coat that mats, you need a tool that reaches the undercoat without scratching the skin. You'll feel the difference on the first stroke: the wrong brush glides over the surface and brings up almost nothing. For upkeep between brushing sessions, a 2-in-1 extendable pet hair remover brush rounds it off nicely.

  • Brush with the lie of the coat, section by section, rather than in big quick sweeps
  • Brush every other day during moulting, once a week the rest of the year
  • Tease out tight knots by hand before brushing: pulling hurts and puts the dog off
  • Check the skin at the same time: redness, ticks and scabs show up when brushing
  • Clean the tool as you go: rinse thoroughly with water after use. Hang by the ring to dry
  • Choose by coat type — this dog brush comes as ambidextrous gloves with pins on the palm and fingers

How often to brush, season by season

During the spring and autumn moult, brush every other day for three to four weeks; the rest of the year, once a week is enough for most short coats. A long coat that mats needs a steady routine all year round.

Always brush a dry dog: wet hair breaks and knots tighten. And for muddy paws or around the eyes between sessions, dog cleaning wipes save you getting the brush out for nothing.

A rule of thumb that avoids plenty of mistakes: if the brush brings up hair but your dog keeps shedding just as much, the undercoat isn't being reached. It's not about pressing harder, it's about the tool.

FAQ

What if I have several cats?

Plan one per cat for anything to do with resting, eating and toileting. Forced sharing is the number one cause of tension in a multi-cat home.

What are the exact dimensions?

28 x 12 cm. Check this measurement against your pet's size: with this kind of accessory, any mismatch shows the moment you use it.

How do I care for it?

Warm soapy water, with no scented products: a cat's sense of smell is far keener than ours, and a whiff of detergent is enough to make it avoid something it was using the day before.

What is it made of?

Thick, flexible silicone. The material dictates the care, so check the specifications for the right way to wash it.
