GPS cat collar for cats who roam and come home late

An outdoor cat has a territory spanning several hundred metres, sometimes more. When it doesn't come home, you're searching blind: GPS turns that search into a matter of minutes, and it also shows you where it spends its days.

Three things decide how useful it really is: battery life, weight on the neck and whether or not there's a monthly subscription. That's what we look at in our GPS cat collars.

Collier Réfléchissant avec Support AirTag pour Chat en nylon doux et résistant

Battery, subscription and weight: the three things that count

This one is made of soft, durable nylon. Adjustable strap with safety buckle and removable bell, 19.8 cm to 32 cm circumference — weight is the first thing to check on a cat: above thirty grams or so, many cats refuse it or rub at it until it comes off. Check the claimed battery life in real use, not on standby. The unit attaches to a Waterproof Anti-Loss GPS Cat Collar with a safety buckle.

  • Look at the weight first — above thirty grams or so, a cat will get rid of it
  • Check whether there's a subscription — it's the cost that surprises people most after buying
  • Compare battery life in real use, not on standby
  • Attach it to a breakaway collar, never to a fixed one
  • Check it's waterproof — a GPS cat collar goes out in the rain and through the bushes
  • Charge it at a set time: hand wash, air dry

What GPS gives you, and what it doesn't replace

GPS doesn't replace identification: the collar is designed to come off if it snags, and a cat found without its collar can only be identified by its microchip. Keep your details up to date on the microchip database.

Watch out for network coverage too: in poorly served rural areas, the location may be approximate or delayed. And always attach the unit to a breakaway collar, never to a collar that won't give way.

An unexpected and very revealing use: the movement map often shows that the cat spends its days at a neighbour's, or crosses a road you didn't know about. Many owners change their cat's outdoor hours after seeing these routes — sometimes that's more useful than the tracking feature itself.

FAQ

How do I care for it?

Warm soapy water and thorough drying. A collar that stays damp under the fur causes irritation at the base of the neck, often spotted too late.

What are the exact dimensions?

19.8 cm to 32 cm around. This is the measurement to check against your pet's build: with this kind of accessory, any mismatch shows straight away in use.

Can it stay on all the time?

An ID collar can be worn all the time, as long as it's properly fitted and checked every month — young pets grow fast. Training or treatment collars, on the other hand, come off at night.

What is it made of?

Soft, tough nylon. It's this material mix that sets the care routine: check the specifications for the right way to wash it.
