He eats without straining his neck — the right height: big dogs stop eating with their head upside down

It no longer ends up across the room — non-slip base that stays put while he pushes

Eats more slowly — ridges they have to work around, so they slow down — less bringing up after meals

Description
Cat bowl stand in plastic, ceramic or stainless steel. Eating with the head too low squeezes the oesophagus and makes your cat swallow air: the bowl should sit at breastbone height, with the cat standing.

Cat bowl stand for cats that vomit after eating

A cat that brings up its biscuits right after a meal doesn't necessarily have a food intolerance: very often, it's eating with its head too low. The bent neck squeezes the oesophagus, air goes down with the food, and it all comes back up a few minutes later.

A raised stand sorts this out without changing the diet. It also helps older cats, cats with arthritis and those with neck pain. Getting it right comes down to centimetres, and that's how we choose our cat bowl stands.

Height, tilt and stability: what makes the difference day to day

This one is made of plastic, ceramic or stainless steel. Rectangular with legs and two built-in bowls, 32.5 × 17 × 10 cm — measure the height at your cat's breastbone while standing: the bowl should reach that level, no higher and no lower. A tilted stand goes further by bringing the food towards the front of the bowl, so your cat doesn't scrape the bottom with its whiskers. Pair it with single clear tilted raised cat bowl – 13 cm with low sides.

  • Set the height at your cat's breastbone while standing — this stand measures 32.5 × 17 × 10 cm
  • Choose wide, shallow bowls — whiskers that rub put a cat off eating
  • Check stability — a cat bowl stand that slides at the first paw tap is soon ignored
  • Clean it every day: easy to clean by hand or with a damp cloth
  • Keep water apart from the food — most cats refuse to drink next to their meal
  • Allow one feeding spot per cat — crowding makes them eat too fast

How high to set the bowl for your cat

The right height is the breastbone, not the chin: too high and the cat stretches its neck upwards and swallows air; too low and nothing has changed. For a kitten, check it again every two months.

If the regurgitation carries on despite the right height, it's eating speed that needs slowing down, or the daily ration that needs splitting. And remember to keep the water separate: placed away from the food, in a dog bowl of its own, it gets drunk far more.

A clue that helps pinpoint the cause: if your cat brings up whole biscuits, in a sausage shape, less than ten minutes after eating, it's mechanical — height or speed. If the food is digested and it happens later, it's no longer the stand you need to change but the vet's opinion you need to get.

FAQ

What height is right for my pet?

A raised bowl suits large dogs and older pets: it avoids straining the neck. For a cat or small dog, a bowl on the floor is more natural.

Does the colour make any difference?

No: Yellow, Green, White and Pink share the same dimensions and the same finish. The choice is purely about looks.

Stainless steel or plastic?

Stainless steel holds neither smells nor bacteria and goes in the dishwasher. Plastic scratches over time, and the scratches trap residue — a known cause of chin acne in cats.

Is it non-slip?

Check the specifications for a rubberised base: without one, a light bowl moves at every meal and ends up under the furniture.
