Dog car seat bed: keeps your dog settled without strapping it to the floor

A dog that slides across the back seat at every bend spends the whole trip standing, legs braced, trying to stay upright. It's tiring, it's stressful, and it's the number one reason dogs hate the car without anyone working out why.

A dog car bed creates a stable spot, with sides to lean against and a base that won't slide. Your dog lies down instead of standing, and the journey changes completely. That's what we look for in our dog car seats.

Sides, non-slip base and fastening: what to check

This one is made of polyester + plush lining. Rectangular with padded backrest, 2 sizes available — measure your back seat and your dog lying down: he needs room to stretch out, not just sit. The non-slip base matters as much as the sides, and the built-in safety tether means no improvising. For a small dog who needs a boost, a back-seat dog bed with rigid base will suit better.

  • Clip the tether to the harness, never the collar: under braking, a collar chokes
  • Measure the back seat and your dog lying down — this seat comes in 2 sizes
  • Check the non-slip base: it's what stops the dog car bed sliding on bends
  • Fit it in the back: an airbag going off kills a dog sitting in the front
  • Wash the cover after muddy outings: hand washing recommended
  • Put their usual blanket in it: the familiar smell does half the work

Where to place it in the car, and what never to do

The back seat, against a backrest, is still the best spot: your dog is supported on three sides and doesn't see the scenery rushing past at the side, which reduces car sickness. In the middle of the seat, they get thrown from side to side.

Never let a dog roam loose in an unseparated boot, and never leave one alone in a parked car in hot weather. If your dog gets car sick, a raised dog car seat that lets them see out the front often does more than a bed.

One detail that matters more than you'd think: the cover should come off without taking the bed apart. That's what decides whether it gets washed after a walk in the woods — or never, and the bed ends up in the garage after one winter.

FAQ

Is it suitable for a puppy?

Check the size first: a toy that fits whole in the mouth is a swallowing risk. For a teething puppy, go for softer materials.

Which size should I choose?

This model comes in S (44x35cm) and M (53x42cm). Measure the space you have in mind and, for a bed, your pet's length lying down plus about ten centimetres. Too snug and it won't get used; too big and it loses its reassuring feel.

Should I leave it out all the time?

No — and that's what makes it interesting. A toy that's always there becomes part of the furniture; brought out and put away, it keeps its appeal for months.

What is it made of?

Polyester + plush lining. This composition is what determines the care: see the specifications for the right way to wash it.
