He dries in ten minutes instead of an hour — highly absorbent fabric: it soaks up water instead of spreading it

He stops shaking himself off in the hallway — wrap him up as he gets out of the bath, before he has time

Your walls and furniture stay dry — it's the quarter of an hour after that soaks the house, not the bath itself

Dog drying robe: dry off after a bath without spending an hour on it

Towel-drying a dog takes ages and always ends the same way: they shake off in the hallway and go and rub themselves on the sofa. A drying robe changes the approach — you put it on, let it work, and your dog dries by itself.

It's especially useful on long coats and dense undercoats, which hold water for hours and stay soggy. A coat that dries badly is an open door to dermatitis. What counts is absorbency, and that's how we pick our dog drying robes.

Absorbency, fit and fastenings: what saves you time

This one is made of soft, absorbent microfibre fabric. Robe jacket with hood and built-in belt, available in several sizes (see chart) — measure the back length from the withers to the base of the tail. Microfibre absorbs several times its own weight and dries fast; cotton towelling absorbs well but stays heavy and is slow to dry itself. Check that the fastenings hold when your dog shakes off. For paws after a walk, our hooded dog bathrobe with ears is all you need.

  • Put it on straight after the bath and leave it for ten minutes before rubbing
  • Measure the back length from withers to tail — this model: available in several sizes (see chart)
  • Check that the fastenings hold when your dog shakes off, or the robe ends up on the floor
  • Dry skin folds and armpits thoroughly — lingering moisture causes dermatitis
  • Wash it after every use: machine washable at 30°C
  • Take it off once your dog is dry — damp fabric left on too long keeps the skin soggy

Using it after a bath, rain or a swim

After a bath, after a swim, after a walk in a downpour: in all three cases the goal is the same — stop moisture sitting at the roots of the coat. Ten minutes in the robe replace a quarter of an hour with a towel.

Take it off as soon as your dog is dry: kept damp, it encourages exactly what it was meant to prevent. And for nothing more than muddy paws after a walk, there's no need to get the robe out — our wipes does the job.

One area the robe doesn't cover and that always gets forgotten: the base of the ears and the folds of the neck. These are exactly the spots where moisture causes the most ear infections and irritation. A towel worked in there by hand is still essential, even with a robe.

FAQ

Is it sturdy enough for an active dog?

Check the stated material: nylon and dense rubber can take it, thin fabric and plush can't. With a dog that chews, nothing replaces keeping an eye on things for the first few days.

Which size should I choose?

This model comes in S, M and L. Measure the space you have in mind and, for a bed, your pet's length lying down plus about ten centimetres. Too snug and it won't get used; too big and it loses its reassuring feel.

How do I care for it?

Warm soapy water and thorough drying before reuse. Avoid very hot water, which warps plastics and slackens straps.

What is it made of?

Soft, absorbent microfibre fabric. This material determines how to care for it: see the specifications for the right way to wash it.
