He comes and goes without you — no more opening the door at six in the morning

The neighbour's cat stays outside — the lock is what separates a cat flap from a hole in the door

Keep the warmth indoors — a flap that closes on its own, instead of a door left ajar

Cat litter box in PP plastic. Three things really matter: absorption, dust and odour control. Allow five to seven centimetres of litter in the tray — too thin a layer puts a cat off.

Cat litter: clumping, plant-based or silica

Litter is the number one source of conflict in a cat household, almost always for the same reason: a cat that goes elsewhere isn't taking revenge, it's telling you something isn't right. The granules, the smell, the depth or how clean the tray is.

The three criteria that really count are absorbency, dust and odour control – in that order. Added fragrance appeals to the owner and often puts the cat off. That's what guides our cat litters.

Litière pour chat PawHut avec porte battante, pelle — 43L x 44l x 47H cm

Absorbency, dust and odour: the three real criteria

This one is made of PP plastic. Rounded rectangle, 43L x 44W x 47H cm — allow five to seven centimetres of litter in the tray, no less: cats scratch and bury, and too thin a layer puts them off. Clumping litter can be scooped daily without changing the lot, which works out cheaper than you'd think. The non-slip Japanese-style cat litter mat that holds it matters just as much.

  • Allow five to seven centimetres of depth – too thin a layer puts your cat off
  • Scoop out the waste every day – that's what matters most for odour
  • Avoid scented litters – the fragrance appeals to the owner and drives the cat away
  • Have one more tray than you have cats – the rule applies with two as well
  • Switch gradually, mixing old and new cat litter over a week
  • Choose by dust level if your cat is asthmatic — this one is made of PP plastic

Changing litter without your cat going elsewhere

A change of litter never happens overnight. Mix one third new with two thirds old for three days, then half and half, then the other way round. A week is enough, and it avoids the classic cat-on-the-rug scenario.

If the problem persists after the switch, it isn't the litter: look at the tray – too small, too enclosed, badly placed – or see your vet, as cystitis shows up in exactly this way. The litter tray is often the real culprit.

A useful guide to quantity: an adult cat uses three to five kilos of clumping litter a month if you scoop daily. Much more than that means the tray is being emptied completely too often – which costs a lot without improving anything.

FAQ

Covered or open?

A covered litter box keeps in smells and scattered litter, but some cats refuse it because they can't see what's coming. If your cat is nervous, start with an open one.

What are the exact dimensions?

43 L x 44 W x 47 H cm. Compare this measurement with the space you have in mind before ordering: it's the one behind most returns when it's only checked afterwards.

Where should it go?

Somewhere quiet, away from the food bowl and busy areas. A cat that feels watched ends up going elsewhere — it's the number one cause of toileting accidents.

What is it made of?

PP plastic. This composition determines the care: check the specifications for the right washing method.
