Cat socks: slippery floors, dressings or scratching

A cat sock meets three specific needs: keeping an older cat steady on a slippery floor, protecting a dressing, or limiting the damage when a cat scratches at a wound. It isn't a fashion item.

Losing confidence on their feet is a real cause of immobility in senior cats: a slippery floor is enough to stop them climbing onto their armchair. This is exactly the job of our cat socks.

Elastic, non-slip grip and size: what to check

These are made of nylon. High socks with an embroidered "eyes" design, several sizes available depending on breed — measure the paw at rest, width and height up to the hock. A non-slip sole is what really matters on a wooden floor; the elastic should hold without leaving marks. For firmer support, disposable socks for dogs and cats – 40 non-slip pairs will be a better fit.

  • Measure the paw at rest — this model: several sizes available depending on breed
  • Check the colour of the toes after an hour — tight elastic cuts off circulation
  • Choose a non-slip sole if wooden floors are the goal
  • Start with one paw and a few minutes — a cat sock that's forced on is never accepted
  • Wash them between uses: hand wash recommended
  • Never leave them on overnight or while you're out

Getting them accepted, and the limits to know

Acceptance depends entirely on going step by step: one paw, two minutes, a treat, then off. Within a few sessions most cats forget them. Put on all four paws at once, they're refused for good.

They don't replace a recovery cone for stopping a cat licking a wound: it will reach it with its mouth. For firmer support and a better hold, cat boots are a better choice.

An alternative worth knowing for wooden floors: non-slip rugs placed along the cat's usual routes often work better than socks, without imposing anything on the cat. For an older cat who won't accept anything on its paws, it's the solution that gives back access to its favourite spots.

FAQ

Does my dog really need a coat?

Short-haired dogs, small breeds and older dogs get cold quickly below 7 to 8 °C. A dog with a thick undercoat doesn't need one.

Which size should I choose?

This model comes in 6.5x3.2cm and 7.5x3.5cm. Go by your pet's measurements — chest girth and back length — rather than its weight: two pets of the same weight don't have the same build. If you're between two sizes, go for the larger one.

Does it get in the way when he does his business?

Our models are cut away at the back. If your dog is male, check this in the photos: a cut-out that's too short is the classic flaw.

What is it made of?

Nylon. It's this material mix that sets the care routine: check the specifications for the right way to wash it.
