A long line is the recall tool. It gives your dog enough freedom to wander off and come back, while keeping a physical link: you never reward a failed recall, and your dog never gets into the habit of not coming back.

Five metres is the training length: enough to give them room, short enough to stay manageable on a walk. It's the most popular size among our 15m long lines.

Material, clip and handling the slack: what matters

This one is made of braided polyester, 9 mm diameter. Round long line with soft foam handle and reinforced snap hook, lengths available: 6 m / 15 m / 25 m — flat webbing doesn't tangle and slides through your hand without rope burn, unlike round rope. Check the snap hook: it's the only part that really breaks. Clip it to a harness, never to a collar. Compared with a waterproof dog training lead - 3M to 15M, it has no mechanism that can fail.

Where to use it, and where it becomes unmanageable

The right method is to let it trail on the ground and only pick it up when needed: your dog forgets it's attached, and you can still stop them. Call, reward, release — and never call them back just to end the walk.

Never wrap it around your hand: a sudden lunge causes rope burns and broken fingers. In open spaces and with a reliable dog, a retractable dog lead gives even more freedom.

The mistake that ruins recall: calling your dog only to clip the lead back on and head home. Within a few weeks, they learn that coming back ends the walk. Call them ten times for a treat and a release, and only once to go home.

FAQ

How do I clean it?

Warm soapy water, then air dry. Avoid the washing machine: it damages the stitching on the handle, which takes the most strain.

Which size should I choose?

This model comes in 6M, 15M and 25M. Go by your pet's measurements — chest girth and back length — rather than its weight: two pets of the same weight don't have the same build. If you're between two sizes, pick the larger one.

Lead or harness?

The lead clips onto either one. On a dog that pulls, attaching it to the collar presses on the windpipe: in that case it's better to connect it to a harness.
