Tracking an outdoor cat: GPS, AirTag or light-up collar

Weight, battery life and subscription: what matters

What tracking gives you, and what it doesn't replace
FAQ
Does it work in woodland?
GPS needs a clear view of the sky. Under dense tree cover, the position can drift by a few dozen metres until the signal comes back. In open ground, it's accurate to within a few metres.
Is it waterproof?
The models we offer withstand rain and puddles. Prolonged immersion — a dog that swims — isn't guaranteed unless the product page says so explicitly.
Do I need a subscription?
Most GPS trackers run on a SIM card, which means a network subscription. Check this in the product specifications before you buy: it's the main hidden cost with this type of product.
How long does the battery last?
It depends on the tracking frequency you choose: the closer together the position updates, the faster the battery drains. The stated figures are for everyday use, not continuous tracking.
