Where to put it, and when to replace it

The best spot is quiet, out of the way, and definitely not in a floor-level draught. Many dogs pick a spot where they can see the front door: put it there rather than in a room on its own, and it will get used.

A mattress needs replacing once a permanent dip has formed — at that point the foam won't bounce back and your dog is sleeping on the hard floor again. For a dog that likes to support its back, a dog sofa with raised sides will suit better.

A simple test for density: press your fist into the centre with all your weight. If your fist touches the floor, the mattress won't hold a thirty-kilo dog for a whole night. It's more reliable than any thickness printed on the label.

FAQ

How do I clean it?

A damp cloth and mild soap are all it takes. It can't go in the washing machine or tumble dryer: the gel pouch won't survive the spin.

Which size should I choose?

This model comes in M (55x40x24cm）, L (65x50x29cm), XL (80x60x34cm) and XXL (100x75x40cm). Measure the space you have in mind and, for a bed, your pet's length lying down plus about ten centimetres. Too snug and it won't get used; too big and it loses its reassuring feel.

Does it need to go in the freezer?

No. The gel inside is activated by pressure and body temperature: you lay it flat, your pet lies on it, and the surface drops a few degrees all by itself. Putting it in the freezer would harden the gel and make it uncomfortable.

Does the colour make any difference?

No: Yellow and Blue share the same dimensions and the same finish. The choice is purely aesthetic.
