He gets onto the bed or into the boot without hurting himself — repeated jumping wears out the joints of a small dog as much as an old one

No more carrying him in your arms — he climbs up by himself, ten times a day, without waiting for you

He actually uses it — a gentle slope and enough width: that's what gets a dog to step on

Description
Dog ramp in high-density foam. It takes away the impact of jumping into the boot, which puts several times your dog's body weight on his shoulders. The slope is everything: aim for a ramp roughly three times as long as the boot is high.

Dog ramp for dogs who can no longer jump into the boot

For a dog, jumping into a boot means an impact of several times its body weight on the shoulders and back. For an older dog, a dachshund, a dog after surgery or with hip dysplasia, every jump counts — and refusing to get in is often the first sign of pain.

A ramp removes the impact completely. What makes it work is the slope: a ramp too short for the height of the boot becomes a slide your dog refuses. That's how we choose our dog ramps.

Length, slope and non-slip surface: the three things that matter

This one is made from high-density foam. Gently sloping steps, available in 2 sizes and different colours — measure the height of your boot and aim for a gentle slope: in practice, you need a ramp about three times as long as that height. The non-slip surface is the second point: a dog that slips once won't go back up. Pair it with a foldable non-slip dog car ramp so he travels snugly in place.

  • Allow a length of about three times the boot height: this ramp is available in 2 sizes and different colours
  • Check the non-slip surface: a dog that slips once will refuse the dog ramp afterwards
  • Check the weight limit and width — a large dog needs room for all four paws
  • Test its stability empty by pressing hard in the middle before letting your dog on
  • Easy to look after: removable cover, washable by hand or in the machine
  • Keep it folded in the boot — a ramp left at home never gets used

Teaching a dog to use a ramp

Start on the flat: lay the ramp on the floor and have your dog walk across it for a treat, several times. Only then raise it, little by little. Pushed or carried, a dog remembers being forced and will refuse afterwards.

Hold the ramp for the first few climbs, even if it's stable: it's the movement, not the slope, that worries him. And so the journey doesn't undo the progress, a dog car seat stops him being thrown about in the back.

A sign of pain that's often misread: a dog who still jumps in but hesitates for a second, or takes his run-up differently, is already hurting. The ramp is far more useful at this stage than later, when he no longer jumps at all — and it's also when it's most easily accepted.

FAQ

Will my pet use it straight away?

Rarely on day one. Guide them with a treat, one step at a time, over two or three short sessions. Most dogs take to it in under a week.

Which size should I choose?

This model comes in 2 steps (beige - 40x40x30cm) and 3 steps (black - 40x55x30cm). Measure the space you have in mind and, for a bed, your pet's length lying stretched out plus about ten centimetres. Too snug and it won't get used; too big and it loses its reassuring feel.

Dog stairs or ramp?

Stairs take up less space and suit most pets. A ramp is the better choice for a dog with arthritis or a large breed, where repeatedly bending the back legs is exactly what you want to avoid.

What is it made of?

High-density foam. The material dictates the care, so check the specifications for the right way to wash it.
