Two dogs on one lead: what you need before buying

A double lead assumes both dogs already walk more or less on a loose lead. If one pulls, he drags the other and you lose control of both at once — that's the situation that causes falls.

It's also not recommended if one of them is reactive: you can't move him away on his own when you meet another dog. In both cases, two separate standard dog leads are safer, even if less convenient.

A word on size difference: never put a very big dog and a very small one on the same handle. One sudden move from the big dog literally lifts the small one off the ground, and a neck or shoulder injury is instant. A sensible gap is no more than double the weight.

The lead clips onto either one. On a dog that pulls, attaching it to the collar presses on the windpipe: in that case it's better to connect it to a harness.

Which size should I choose?

This model comes in 100cm and 120cm. Go by your pet's measurements — chest girth and back length — rather than its weight: two pets of the same weight don't have the same build. If you're between two sizes, pick the larger one.

Will the clip hold a large dog?
