A long line is the recall tool. It gives your dog enough freedom to wander off and come back, while keeping a physical link: you never reward a failed recall, and your dog never gets into the habit of not coming back.

Five metres is the training length: enough to give them room, short enough to stay manageable on a walk. It's the most popular size among our 20m long lines.

Material, weight and clip: what to check

This one is made of a braided polyester core + waterproof PVC coating. Waterproof flat long line with built-in handle and stainless steel clip, lengths available: 5 to 20M — flat webbing doesn't tangle and slides through your hand without burning, unlike round rope. Check the clip, the only part that really breaks. It attaches to a harness, never a collar. Compared with a reinforced PVC waterproof long line for dogs – 5 m to 20 m, it has no mechanism that can fail.

Open ground only, and here's why

The right method is to let it trail on the ground and only pick it up when needed: your dog forgets it's attached, and you can still stop them. Call, reward, release — and never call them back just to end the walk.

Never wrap it around your hand: a sudden lunge causes rope burns and broken fingers. In open spaces and with a reliable dog, a retractable dog lead gives even more freedom.

The mistake that ruins recall: calling your dog only to clip the lead back on and head home. Within a few weeks, they learn that coming back ends the walk. Call them ten times for a treat and a release, and only once to go home.

FAQ

Lead or harness?

The lead clips onto either one. On a dog that pulls, attaching it to the collar presses on the windpipe: in that case it's better to connect it to a harness.

Which size should I choose?

This model comes in 5M, 10M, 15M and 20M. Go by your pet's measurements — chest girth and back length — rather than its weight: two pets of the same weight don't have the same build. If you're between two sizes, pick the larger one.

Will the clip hold a large dog?

Check the stated load in the specifications rather than the look: a zamak clip gives way where a steel one holds. It's the part that fails first on a dog lead.
